I love Winter photoshoots. I know it can be daunting bringing the kids out into the rain and cold but honestly, the results we achieve are absolutely worth it and I cannot recommend a Winter photoshoot enough! These aremytop 8 reasons to do a Perth Winter photoshoot.
- Beautiful clouds creating the perfect sky for your images
To achieve that dramatic sky look, we need clouds. The sunsets lately have been GORGEOUS with the clouds and the sun poking through them, sending rays of light in all different directions and creating a beautiful glow around the clouds. Fairy floss colours are more common and create something just so magical. Just take a look at this beautiful winter sunset.

- The cloud cover diffuses the light across your faces so no harsh shadows
Given the choice of full sunlight or overcast weather for a photoshoot, I’d take overcast any day of the week. In full sunlight, the sun creates harsh shadows under your eyes, your nose and even your lips. However, when it’s overcast, the clouds act as a diffuser and cast a beautifully even light across your face so we don’t have to worry about facing a certain way (especially important when chasing kids around!) and you can rest assured that your photos will be free of crazy shadows.

Winter is typically the quietest time of year for photographers and honestly, I wish I could get everyone to book in Winter because there is so much potential for beauty from your Perth Winter photoshoot and I have pinpointed my top 8 reasons for this.
- Earlier sunset means your session is done sooner and bedtime is not affected
With sunset being earlier in Winter, those sunset sessions are at a much more convenient time. The kids still have energy, dinner can be done after the session (though snacks before-hand is always recommended to avoid any hangry moods!) and bedtime is not pushed back. I know how much we long for bedtime some days so don’t worry – your Winter photoshoot won’t compromise this!
- Less people out and about so your session is private
With the cooler weather, less people are out and about so our session is a lot more private which means any anxiety around having your photo taken in front of onlookers is eliminated. It also means no sneaky photobombs (that I always do my best to remove but it’s not always possible) are in your family photos.

- Knit wear and layers creates beautiful textured images
The texture of cosy knitwear, boots and blankets photograph so beautifully and create such a mood that you can help but feel the warm and fuzzies when you look at the photos.

- A reason to get cosy and have lots of cuddle photos
Speaking of warm and fuzzies, the best way to warm up is cuddles, cuddles and more cuddles. This is the best excuse for your kids to curl up in your arms while I snap away at these beautiful moments.
- Mosquitos and flies are scarce
We live in perth, we all know what this is like. This is one big perk of doing a Perth winter photoshoot. I don’t need to say much more.
- A reason to get the gumboots out and stomp in puddles together
This is one of my favourite parts of Winter. Kids love puddles. They will run and jump and splash and getting the whole family involved creates memories and I am honored to capture these memories for you.

Don’t post pone your family photos because of the season. There are so many seasons of life and we want to remember our kids in all of them. You’ll be glad you went ahead with it.
** For safety, reschedules can occur if it is storming or heavy rain, but if it is slightly raining, we will go ahead!
