When you choose me as your Family Photographer in Perth, you are choosing to do a session that values real moments over posed images, that follows your children’s lead and engages in play time and exploration. You are choosing a genuine and authentic experience that will capture the real YOU.

Why prompts over poses?

What do we think of when someone is pointing a camera at us and says ‘say cheeeeese!’ Is it a happy feeling? Is it a memorable moment? Does saying ‘cheese’ really make us show our most natural smiles? Or does it lead to us thinking ‘this feels awkward’, ‘how do I normally smile?’, ‘where do I usually put my hands?’

Let’s just throw that out completely! You won’t hear me utter *those words* in my sessions.

What you will hear is me chatting to your children about their interests, what they have done that day, asking them to tell me what colour your eyes are (this produces a great, tender shot between parent and child by the way!).

You’ll hear me ask you all to bunch in together and then ask you to look at who does the biggest burps, whose room is messiest, who does the stinkiest farts (this one always seems to tickle the boys most).

Prompts will forever be my favourite way to get people interacting naturally and most authentically.

What do I mean by child-led and play-based?

This one is huge because let’s face it, if the kids are happy, we are happy. If the kids aren’t happy, NOONE is happy. Kids natural instinct is to explore, run, jump, climb…all the things we typically try to stop them doing when wearing their nice photo ready outfits.

My advice as your Family Photographer in Perth is just to lean into it. Ask them what they want to look at, whether they can see the birds in the trees or if they want to collect sticks on the ground to build a ‘campfire’. Ask them what THEY want to do.

I want to get them comfortable with me being around them, while interacting with you in their most natural state and showing me and my camera exactly who you are together as a family. Your kids will be happy and thrive which will result in beautiful family photos to treasure for years to come.

Though maybe steer clear of any muddy puddles until the very end of the session!
