My first pregnancy, I gave little to no thought about what I wanted for my maternity photoshoot. The whole world of kids and maternity dresses and the seemingly never ending list of things we needed to buy to be “ready” for Bub was to new to me. As a result, I did my maternity photos solo and have barely looked at them since.
The second time around, I learnt my lesson. With my partner and now 2.5 year old in tow, I organised a family maternity photoshoot. We played, we laughed, my oldest had a blast bouncing on the bed and showing off for the camera. They are some of my favourite photos now.

Coordinating outfits
Let’s start here, because this is my number one most asked question in the lead up to a maternity photoshoot. What do I wear? Mumma, wear what you are comfortable in! Your body is growing a human and we are here to celebrate that. So, choose your outfit first and coordinate everyone else to match you using my tips on what to wear.
Comfortable and fun location
Don’t just choose a spot because its trending or so and so you went to school with 10 years ago did it. Choose somewhere that you are drawn to, that you see yourself feeling at home in, that your other child(ren) will enjoy exploring or will feel most comfortable. For me, it was simply our bedroom. I wanted cosy, comfortable and fun. I wanted it to feel intimate and like it was ‘us’…and what better place than our own family home.
Make it FUN
The best way to capture genuine smiles and emotions is to create a space that invites it. Play silly games like hide and seek, I Spy or tickling. If you want sweet shots of your child touching your belly but tey aren’t interested, get creative. grab some paints and let them paint your belly. the sweet moments happen naturally as long as you let them. lean into the moment and enjoy the experience together. I will be there to prompt you with game ideas and ways to get the images you hope for.
Let me help you
For the most part, I capture candid moments. That doesn’t mean I leave you to your devices and just photograph what happens. It means I interact with you and your children, I give little prompts and games to get everyone laughing and relaxing, I will nudge you to move your hand towards your partners or give a kiss when I see a moment. I am with you to capture your family exactly as you are, so it is my job to ensure I allow everyone to be their authentic selves.
Maternity photoshoots are all about celebrating love, life and the tiny miracle growing in your belly. You will never have this exact moment back again and I don’t want anyone to have regrets. Get the photos done. One day the child growing in your belly may even ask to see them and what a beautiful moment that is.

Get in touch today and book that maternity photoshoot. You won’t regret it.
