Newborn Lifestyle Photoshoot | A guide from your Perth Photographer

In home lifestyle newborn photoshoot

Doing a newborn lifestyle photoshoot is my absolute favourite way to capture newborns. In your own home, your safe space, where your newborn bubble and family life are in full swing.

The best part is that this is a perfect setup year round. We are blessed in Perth with some of the most beautiful outdoor locations, but we also have extreme weather which is not ideal for newborns. Doing an in home newborn session in Perth is the best way to control temperature as well as keeping Bub in a familiar and safe environment.

So, what can you expect from a newborn lifestyle photoshoot?

1. Blankets, basket, outfits brought to you

When I come to your newborn lifestyle photoshoot, I bring blankets, baby basket and knitted outfits that you are free to mix and match and change throughout the session. The colours, styles and textures are ones that I have carefully selected and know photograph beautifully. They are timeless and will elevate your final gallery. This means you don’t have to worry about what to dress baby in or where to pose baby. You can simply sit back and let me worry about those logistics and know your gallery will be beautiful.

2. Creature comforts & familiarity

Imagine you are brand new to the world, your mums voice, smell and touch are the only things that are familiar to you. Coming home to where her scent is all around you and you are welcomed into a warm, cosy environment is what makes you feel safe and secure. Now, imagine someone trying to take you out to a field where the wind is cold, it smells funny and drops of rain are intermittently hitting your forehead. It’s not ideal. You’ll probably cry a lot.

Opting for an in-home newborn shoot is honestly the best way to ensure baby is at their most comfortable. It is familiar, it is their space and in general, everyone’s stress levels are lower which baby will pick up on and feed off of. Keep it comfortable, keep it familiar and everyone is happy.

3. No crying car rides!

I don’t need to elaborate much here. We all know the torture of a car ride with a screaming newborn. Moving on.

4. Personal touches

The wall art you spent hours pouring over on Etsy for the nursery, the cot you put up in anticipation of bub sleeping there (hint: they wont), the couch where you spend hours nap trapped watching trash TV and smelling that newborn smell…all these things are what makes an in-home session so special.

Your personal style and the memories you have behind everything within your home are what give it the most personal touch.

5. Memories

Whether it’s your forever home, a stepping stone or a rental, this house is where you brought your baby home for the first time. This is one of my favourite parts about doing a lifestyle newborn photoshoot – the memories that come with it. One day you’ll be able to pull the photos out and show your now adult child “this is where we brought you home. This was your nursery. This was our room where you actually ended up sleeping most nights.”

Nothing is more special than the memories we hold with our children. They won’t be this little forever and we won’t always remember every little detail of them at this age. But your photos will.

Send me a message to book your in-home newborn lifestyle session and preserve the memories forever.
