This Perth photoshoot location guide is here to go through the things you need to consider when choosing your perfect location. Because as much as it is about what you like and what vibe you want, there are practical elements to consider as well.

1. Vibes
Beach, bush, ocean, open field, boardwalks, river, parks…we are incredibly lucky with our Perth photoshoot location options. We are blessed with sunsets over the ocean, gorgeous bushland and walkways.
Have a big think about where you and your family like to spend time. What kind of surrounds suit your families personality and where your kids will feel most comfortable to explore.

2. Time of day
Beach at sunset means a later start time, especially in Summer. Something to consider if it’s the kids bedtime. If you still want the sunset, but not the later start, why not try a location with plenty of bush cover? The sun will still come through between the trees, giving that sunset look, but you don’t have to wait for it to hit the horizon since you can’t tell the difference between the trees.

3. Distance from you
I KNOW how much it sucks being in the car hearing ‘are we almost there? I’m hungry. I need to go toilet. I want to go home.” Choose a location that is not going to have everyone stressed, over it and pulling their hair out by the time you pull up.

4. Facilities
Many popular Perth photoshoot location options are secluded and don’t have many facilities like public toilets, drink fountains or baby changing stations. I have scouted numerous locations and have made a note of where the best ones are that provide public facilities.
This is also especially important for maternity sessions, because mums, we know in those last few months we want to stay close to a toilet!

5. Parking
When you’re at the end of pregnancy or recovering from birth, carrying multiple small children or simply just want to get in and out of your session quickly, parking close by is a MUST.
Make sure your location not only has ample parking, but parking close to where you will be doing your photoshoot as some locations require some walking. Add in Perth’s hot weather during Summer and we just know we want to limit the amount of time walking from car to session.

6. Accessibility
Accessibility on my photoshoots is always at the forefront of my mind. Photographing young children, pregnant mother’s and wheelchair users means that I like to ensure accessible footpaths and even footing at my locations.
If you take these things into consideration when choosing your Perth photoshoot location, you will be able to choose not only a beautiful and convenient location, but the perfect location for you and your family.
