I’m your Perth In-home Family Photographer and I literally do not care about your house. I don’t care if there are toys strewn room to room, if the floor is marked with spots of spit up, the dishes are stacked to the ceiling or the pile of laundry resembling Everest is taking over the couch. I don’t.

“But my house is not display home quality.”

“My house is old and run down.”

“There is too much mess to do it at home.”

Imma stop you right there because while these are all valid worries, I can still make magic happen.

1. Framing techniques

I’m not going to get into the technical side, but let me just say that what’s not in the frame, doesn’t exist. You don’t want to remember the dishes in the sink, that’s fair. They won’t be in shot. The laundry bothers you? I’ll pick it up and put it elsewhere for 10 minutes while we use the couch. These things can all be fixed and I am more than happy to scope the space and work out what needs to be moved and where to avoid unnecessary clutter.

2. Windows are our best friend

As long as you have a natural light source in the room, we can capture some beautiful shots. Natural lighting is my best friend. I’ll always have my flash on me, but I’d rather open up some windows, get that sunlight in and enhance that romantic, warm glow that comes with it.

Windows are also a good way to create a white studio look to mix it up a little. Open up the curtains, stand in front of the light source and viola! You’ll have some studio looking shots without ever leaving your home. Magic.

3. This is your space

This is the space that you are raising your children. Being an enthusiastic in-home family photographer, I want to encourage as many Perth families as I can to at least do ONE family photoshoot in any house you live in. I know personally, I love looking back and seeing the various houses I grew up in. I want to see photos of me in my backyard where I used to imagine fairies lived, and photos of me in the hallway where I used to close all the doors when the aircon was on so it would blow my dress up, Marilyn Monroe style.

These are memories I hold dearly to my heart and having photos of these take me back to the moment. i can only imagine how it feels for my mum to look back on them too.

4. Your safe space

Your home is your families safe space. Where everyone comes home at the end of each day and reconnects, shares stories, cries, laughs and plays together. Snuggle up on the couch, sit around playing a game of Uno, bake muffins together…whatever it is you like to do, let’s capture it. Let’s freeze those moments in time so you can one day look back when the kids are moved out and these moments are just memories.
