Mini session or full family session? With so many options for Perth photographers now and SO many different offers, you’ve probably asked yourself this question a few times.
I’m going to lay this out for you so you can make a fully informed decision that is best for your family. Because it is not one size fits all.

Mini Session
- Short and sweet: usually 15-20 minutes max
- One set location and specific times available
- Lower in cost
- A small gallery with options to upgrade
- Perfect for only wanting specific images/milestones/celebrate and remember holidays like Christmas
Full Family Session
- Longer, between 45 mins – 1.5 hours depending
- Great if your kids take some time warm up to new people
- Location and time is customised to what you would like
- Larger gallery, can be 60+ images
- Much more relaxed and slow paced
- Great for extended families, newborns, family sessions and maternity

I offer both mini and full family sessions because there is a time and place for both. My mini sessions are only held around holidays because I truly believe that 20 minutes just isn’t enough to really let your kids warm to me and become comfortable enough to be their authentic selves.
However, I do believe mini’s are enough to capture the magic of Christmas in a few shots with decorations and wonder, or celebrate the bond between a child and mother or father as you cuddle on a blanket together on the floor.
When deciding between a mini or a full session, please ask yourself this. Do I want a few keepsake milestone images or do I want to capture my child and who they are at this particular moment in time? Will my child warm up quickly or will it take them a bit longer to feel comfortable to play and run around confidently? Is there a location that is sentimental to us or feels more ‘us’ or are we happy and at home anywhere we go?
These are all important and valid questions because while you may feel you are saving some money doing a mini session but if the specifics don’t serve you (location, time, particular celebration etc) then you may wind up feeling disappointed. Then, ultimately spend more on another session to capture what you really wanted.

If you are still tossing up between which you think suits your family best, reach out and ask me any questions! My inbox is always open to answer your questions honestly and provide the service that is right for you.
