When you think about booking your family photos in Perth, do you think about yourself and your kids? Of course you do, I do too. Why wouldn’t I? This is the family I have created, the family I chose and the family I am in the trenches raising right now.
But if you are one of the lucky ones whose parents and grandparents are around, involved, loving and caring, this is why you should consider inviting them along to the family photoshoot.
1. Generational connections
Taking generational photos is something I absolutely treasure as a family photographer. There is something so special and sacred about creating a visual legacy and it serves as a reminder of where we came from. I personally love seeing the generational photo we took of our family displayed in my grandparents house. I can see she treasures it and I know I will never regret that session.

2. Timeless Memories
Life moves fast and we are busy. The matriarch’s and patriarch’s of the family went through the same season we are in now and they understand that there is not always time to pop in on a random weekday for a coffee. Inviting them along to your family session not only creates beautiful heirlooms to pass down, but also lets them know they are still very important in the family dynamic and very much appreciated.

3. An element of emotion
Is your grandad a prankster? Is grandma more sentimental and tender? Does you mum enjoy big bear hugs with the kids? Grandparents and adult parents add an element of emotion especially when young kids are involved. Another of my favourite photos to get during these extended family photoshoots is of a mum/dad and their child. Watching your own child raise a baby is a proud feeling and that pride is plastered across parents faces. Truly an emotional keepsake to treasure.

Next time you are booking your family photos in Perth, consider inviting the grandparents along and creating memories the entire family can look back on together.
